The City of Chico is monitoring the level of risk of COVID-19 to the public in coordination with the City's Health Officer, Dr. Andrew Miller, and the Butte County Public Health Department. We will provide updates as they become available. City personnel are working daily to protect our community. We urge our residents to follow state recommendations including regular hand washing, staying home if you are feeling ill, maintaining social distancing, and calling your health practitioner if you are experiencing COVID-19 symptoms (fever, fatigue, cough, and headaches/body aches). Please note, information regarding this topic may change quickly, and we will update both this page and our City of Chico Social Media channels as information changes.

    We encourage the community to use our online services whenever possible.

    City facilities, including City Hall, the Chico Police Department, and the Parks & Public Works Office are open to the public BY APPOINTMENT ONLY. This allows commerce to continue to occur, but also implements social distancing, as the meetings are staggered. This effort allows the City to help mitigate the potential spread of COVID-19 from person to person.

  • At an Emergency Meeting on March 12th, the Chico City Council postponed the March 17th council meeting to arrange for remote engagement by the public at future meetings. The next City Council meeting will be held on April 7 and only items essential to government operations will be discussed. Meetings will continue to be held only once per month for 90 days (from the 3/12 date).
  • All City parks are open at this time, but please consult the Chico Area Recreation & Parks District (CARD) website for program cancellations.

  • City Hall, the Chico Police Department, and the Parks & Public Works Office are open BY APPOINTMENT ONLY. The City is working to install a drop box outside of City Hall for deliveries and payments.
  • The front lobby at the Chico Police Department is now closed. The business (non-emergency) line is (530) 897-4900. Livescan fingerprint services for the general public at the Chico Police Department has been suspended until further notice.
  • Street Sweeping: We have temporarily suspended street sweeping through April 30th in order to focus crews on critical and urgent infrastructure demands.

  • Please be aware that there may be other events that occur within Chico but are operated independently from the City of Chico. You will want to contact specific event organizers for more information.


    Additional cleaning measures are in place at all City facilities to protect both the public and City staff. The intensive cleanings will be in addition to the normal scheduled cleanings until further notice. This includes the lobby and counter area at the Chico Police Department along with the elevators in the downtown parking structure.

    Public Safety

  • A message from the Chico Police Department: Chico Police is still actively handling calls for service and responding to crimes in progress. Our communications center is asking the public to disclose any medical conditions when they call for police and fire services so that we can make sure first responders have the appropriate personal protective equipment and to reduce any potential exposure.
  • School Closures

    CUSD's Nutrition Services Dept. will be providing FREE grab-and-go meals to children 18 years and younger during the week of 3/23/20 - 3/27/20. Families can pick up meals from 11:00am to 11:30am at the following locations:

  • Chapman Elementary
  • Citrus Elementary
  • Bidwell Junior High School
  • Chico Junior High School
  • The Chico Unified School District is on Spring Break from March 16-March 20, and in addition, there is no school on Monday, March 23rd (Spring Travel Day for students, CUSD staff workday).

    All CUSD services and programs (Nutrition Services, Preschool, Intersession, etc.) will be suspended and unavailable from March 16-March 23. All athletic programs, including practices and competitions, will be suspended through April 14.

    Meals will be provided based on the number of children present and will be delivered to your car. Meals are not to be consumed on-site.
