2021 Annual Road Rehabilitation Project
The 2021 Annual Road Rehabilitation Project proposes to implement safety and accessibility improvements along Park Avenue from East 9th Street to East Park Avenue and along Pine, Cypress, and Mulberry Streets from 9th Street to 20th Street. The proposed improvements include grinding and paving, new striping, new lighting, ADA curb ramps, and bike lanes. Additionally, Hemlock and Locust Streets, between and through 12th Street and 20th Street, would receive a slurry seal paving treatment.
Bruce Road Reconstruction Project
Currently in Design Phase
The proposed project involves the reconstruction and widening of an approximately 2-mile segment of Bruce Road from State Route 32 (SR 32) to Skyway utilizing roller-compacted concrete pavement. The proposed “Complete Streets” improvements include widening Bruce Road from an existing 2-lane arterial roadway to a 4-lane arterial roadway, and replacement of the existing two-lane, functionally obsolete Bruce Road bridge over Little Chico Creek (Caltrans Bridge # 12C0106) with a new four-lane bridge structure.

Cactus Avenue Traffic Signal Project

The proposed project includes the installation of traffic signal equipment with lighting, a controller cabinet, and associated pavement striping and markings at the intersection of Cactus Avenue and East Avenue.
Citywide Systemic Safety Improvements Project
Currently in Design Phase
The following is a general description for the Citywide Systemic Safety Improvements Project which proposes various safety improvements throughout City limits. The project is funded with Federal-aid Highway Safety Improvement Program (HSIP) funds.
Cohasset Road Widening
Currently in Design Phase
This project will complete the improvements programmed for Cohasset Road from the Sycamore Creek Bridge to Ryan Avenue in the vicinity of the Chico Municipal Airport. Sycamore Creek is located just east of Eaton Road.
Comanche Creek Greenway Improvement Project – Phase II
The Comanche Creek Greenway Improvement Project Phase 2 is constructing a Class 1 bikeway gap closure on an abandoned railroad grade,and connecting the regional Chico-Durham bike path at the Midway to the recently completed Phase 1 pedestrian/bike bridge over Comanche Creek.

Guynn Avenue Bridge over Lindo Channel-Bridge Replacement Project

The City of Chico has obtained funding to replace the structurally deficient and functionally obsolete Guynn Avenue Bridge over Lindo Channel.
Pomona Avenue over Little Chico Creek Bridge Replacement Project
The City of Chico has obtained funding to replace the structurally deficient and functionally obsolete Pomona Avenue Bridge over Little Chico Creek. The bridge is located roughly 500 feet west of Dayton Road and provides access over the waterway for the South Campus Neighborhood. The existing bridge was constructed in 1917 and consists of 66-foot long, three-span reinforced concrete “T” grinders. The bridge suffers from the following deficiencies:
South Campus Neighborhood Improvement Plan
As a result of a vehicle on pedestrian fatal collision in 2015, the Chico City Council received a petition from the Chico State University student body calling for improvements to this neighborhood due to several safety concerns.

Currently in Design Phase
The City of Chico is currently underway with planning efforts for the State Route 99/Southgate Avenue Interchange and Corridor Study.
