With temperatures forecasted to rise into the triple digits this upcoming weekend, an emergency cooling center will be made available on Saturday, September 5 through Monday, September 7, 2020.
The cooling center will be located at Depot Park, on 5th and Cedar Streets, and will be open from noon through 8:00 p.m. each day.
The cooling center will consist of a shade structure with misters for those seeking respite from the heat. For cooling center operations, activation occurs when temperature rises above 100 degrees for two or more consecutive days.
“The City Council directed staff to ensure this venue is available to the public when extreme weather conditions exist,” said Mark Orme, City of Chico City Manager.
